Release notes

Changelog

Versions go up in larger steps; each one lists what was added.

  1. 0.7.0 Performance

    Current

    • Tessellation and frame evaluation run on all CPU cores (2–3× faster on big scenes)
    • IK stops as soon as it can’t get closer; single-bone aim solves directly (rigs evaluate about 3× faster)
    • The stage keeps the evaluated frame and its GPU geometry while nothing changes: hovering, panning and rotating the view cost almost nothing
    • Benchmarks (bogo-cli bench) and live stats over MCP (app.stats, app.layout)
    • Measured on an RTX 5080: one character takes 1.3 ms of work per frame, 5 characters + 1,000 shapes 4.9 ms, and 20 characters + 5,000 shapes (half a million triangles) run at about 20 fps
  2. 0.6.0 Output

    • Quick render (Ctrl+R): a fast preview video with sound in the renders folder, played in ToonFlick or in your video player (the choice is remembered)
    • Final render (Ctrl+Shift+R): MP4 (H.264), ProRes 4444 MOV and WebM with transparency, PNG sequence, GIF; size presets that keep the scene aspect, Draft/High/Best quality, the soundtrack at its timeline position, time left, Open / Show in folder
    • Scene panel: resolution presets, frame rate, length, background, soundtrack; numbers edit live
    • Camera shake: handheld, walk, run, vehicle, earthquake, impact, vibration, drift — keyable strength, frequency, amplitude, roll and seed
    • Key panel in the timeline (N): frame, interpolation and values of the selected keys
    • Ctrl+A selects every layer (or every key over the timeline); several layers move, turn and scale together; Ctrl+G groups them
    • Start-up splash; menus show on/off options as check boxes; corner radius at most 4 px
    • The ToonFlick website
  3. 0.5.0 Workflow

    • Switch drawings strip along the bottom of the stage: thumbnails, click to show from this frame, add images, fold away
    • Head aim controller; adding an IK controller keeps the existing animation
    • The Layers panel shows the selection and reveals it; hidden or locked layers can’t be picked; type-to-filter in Layers, the timeline and long lists
    • Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V copy and paste keys from the current frame, with status messages
  4. 0.4.0 Drawing toolkit

    • Brushes window with live previews; new calligraphy, dry brush, splatter and wavy brushes (12 in all)
    • Per-point line width (Line Width tool, W) and per-branch line visibility for draw-on effects
    • Curve types per shape: Smooth, Bézier with handles, NURBS with weights — switching keeps the look
    • Pen-friendly picking (from where you press), larger pick radii, hover highlight and cursors
    • Motion paths of the selected bones
  5. 0.3.0 Character rig

    • Demo rig with Root, Body (centre of gravity), Hips, three spine bones and a Chest controller
    • Try the rig on the setup frame (it springs back); Shift edits the rig, Alt rotates only
    • A wave animated through the hand’s IK controller
    • The timeline highlights the edited channel; copy keys and poses to the current frame
  6. 0.2.0 Lines and rigs

    • Group masking with outlines drawn on the clipped result
    • Line brushes, including animated (boiling) lines
    • IK controllers for hands, pole targets to choose the bend side, maximum IK stretch
    • 26 palette presets; 25 controller handle shapes
  7. 0.1.0 Foundation

    • GPU renderer (wgpu, 4× MSAA) and a project model with keyframed channels and easing
    • Command registry: every action is an undoable command, scriptable over MCP by AI agents
    • Docked workspaces (Animate, Draw, Rig), stage navigation, the transform box and the timeline
    • Bones with IK/FK, controllers, constraints and correctives (smart-bone style)
    • Soundtrack in sync with scrubbing, waveform and auto lip-sync; pen pressure
